Access to interpreters and translators
The issue of appropriate use of interpreters and translators is an ongoing issue in the daily lives of many refugees, for example at healthcare providers, in schools or at the police station.
MDA's Advocacy Unit is working to improve systems for government departments and service providers to know how and when to engage an interpreter. We are a member of the Queensland Access to Interpreter's Working Group, which is convened by the Queensland Council of Social Services and is made up of a number of organisations from the multicultural and community sector.
