Cultural Support Workers

Cultural Support Workers (CSWs) are employed casually by MDA to assist in the successful settlement of migrants and refugees in Australia. Due to the nature of the work, regular hours and income cannot be guaranteed. Work is assigned in response to requests from the community.

CSWs assist in the Settlement Program(s) as well as the Early Childhood Program. Language skills to the native level( in a language other than English) will be required, as well as the ability to speak and understand English to an appropriate level of fluency. A large part of the CSW role will include supporting communication between the clients and mainstream services.

In the Settlement program(s), CSWs support families in day-to-day processes required to establish themselves and their families in Brisbane, Toowoomba and Rockhampton.

In the Early Childhood Program, CSWs support children’s services to successfully include children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds across the State.

In the Consultancy services the CSWs provide culturally appropriate advice and support to government and non-government organisations across Queensland.

It is a requirement for all CSWs to hold a current ‘working with children’ Blue Card. Applicants must be willing to apply for and pay for a blue card. Please check the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian (ccypcg) website for current costs.

To register as a CSW simply submit the completed Cultural Support Worker Expression of Interest form.
